Ominous…

Thanks to my experience at GeoVision, I get more than a little bit scared when a secretary comes around to personally hand out meeting notices to a “Group Discussion”, and checks your name off on a list when she gives you your invitation. Especially when you work for a shrinking company in a lousy economy.

When this happened at GeoVision, we quickly compared notes and realized that a large number of us were invited to an early meeting, but most people had been invited to a later one. Those of us invited to the early meeting were people like me who were just about to start a new project (I was actually due to go to the San Diego office for several months) and the usual assortment of “dead weight” – non-essentials like docos, trainers and sales people.

I don’t know about the rest of them, but I spent my lunch hour taking everything I cared about from my work area and locking it in the trunk of my car and updating my resume.

I wonder if I should do that now? Probably not worth it – it’s not like there are any jobs for programmers left anywhere in the US anyway. I wonder what it’s like living in India?
