Little help, please?

I need a bit of non-spoilerish help for Half Life 2.

By mostly ignoring the zombies and headcrabs I managed to get past the scene where the home-made looking bombs were raining down with a bit of health and armour. Now I’m in a vast open field, mostly covered with toxic radioactive waste and head crabs. I’ve gotten to the gate and opened up, but I can’t for the life of me (get it?) figure out how to get up that tunnel without dying. I get onto the bit of shoreline on the near side with about 35 health and 10 armour, and then the dry land runs out on my side. If I pre-shoot the crate that’s floating in the middle I can get the health out faster as I sprint to the next bit of dry land (where there is a movable bit of wood, but I can’t seem to make a decent raft out of it), but by then I’m pretty depleted.

I suspect I’ve missed something either out on the open plain or with the crates before I go into the tunnel.

Any hints?

  1. There’s a hovercraft somewhere. Did we miss the hovercraft? Or did you get it after I left?

Anyway, that needs to be found first.

  2. Ok, I went back and found the airboat, but man is it motion sickness inducing, especially since I keep confusing that you don’t turn the boat with the mouse, just the way you’re looking. I got as far as something that looks like it’s going to be another “teeter-totter” puzzle like we’ve met before, only with the end-result being a ramp I can use to jump the airboat out of this swimming pool. I may have to go back and do that whole section again, because when I was trying to get into the airboat the first time, I didn’t realize you could just “use” it, and I fell off into the slime again and lost a bunch of health. Of course, the helpful person manning the boat just says something like “You really need to get back into the airboat”. Thanks, brainiac.
