WANT!

Oh man, it’s too bad my pay just went down a big chunk and I’ve had to swear off the impulse purchases. Because I just got my hands on my first G1 phone, and I like it. A lot. Not as sweet as a iPhone, but I love the keyboard and the fact that it has cut and paste. Unfortunately T-Mobile’s 3G network is pretty sparse compared to AT&T’s. And there aren’t as many cool apps for the G1 phone. Maybe that’s the incentive I need to wait for version 2 of the phone. Yeah, that’s it. I’m not stuck with my outmoded and obsolete Treo, I’m waiting for version 2.

  1. Well, we are out of our contract period with AT&T, and their family plans aren’t too expensive on T-Mobile.

  2. I really think you’re better off waiting to see what happens with Android over the next year. Being stuck with a Palm device is bad enough (I weep for PalmOS). Being stuck with another moribund OS on your next phone would be even worse.

Maybe the iPhone will support all those things we want in the next year. I’ve added Bluetooth OBEX and HID profiles to my want list, so I’ll probably never get an iPhone.

  3. I’ve got an eye on it as well, but so far nobody is carrying it on this side of the border. I’ve not yet had a chance to get hands on with it, but I’m looking forward to the opportunity.

I love my iPhone and all, but despite adjusting to the onscreen keyboard, I really miss the physical version, and frankly I’m getting a bit perturbed at the frequency of MobileSafari crashes at certain websites. No copy and paste as well as the blatant lack of Bluetooth A2DP are other irritants.

But, every time I look at the current batch of alternatives, it still comes out way ahead of the rest of the pack and I need to remind myself of the fact it’s still a great phone despite it all.
