Another sleepless night, another wasted day

Way too much medical information after the cut.

I woke up in the middle of the night (around 3:30) with a “pulled muscle” type pain in my back so bad I was having trouble breathing. This seems to be happening a lot recently, and I have no idea what’s causing it. I took some Alieve and some Tylenol, and tried sitting in my desk chair or lying down, and it didn’t help. Eventually, around 5:00, I stole the birds’ heating pad and slept in the Lazy Boy chair in the library.

Only a few days ago, I spent a night on the toilet, or at least from 11:30pm to about 4:15am, straining to try to clear what felt like trapped gas and constipation. Again, this is something that’s happened several times in the last few months. The pressure has somewhat lessened after that sleepless night, but it still doesn’t feel right. I’ve had bowel problems ever since going low-carb but it’s almost like things have been getting worse since I started adding starch back into my diet.

And here is the weirdest part – when I’m having these other problems, I often have a strange sort of pain in my penis. It feels like an ache in the urethra, down just below the base of the glans. I have no idea what could possibly be doing that.

The biggest problem with all this crap is that after a night with little sleep, I find it hard to concentrate for most of the next day. And I’m trying to get this damn functional spec done this week.

  1. Kim and i are ready to send today back for a refund, too. She got up at 04:00 and couldn’t go back to sleep, and i spent the last 3 hours of sleep dreaming incredibly stupid crap and woke up with a headache and messed-up shoulders.

If you aren’t, i recommend taking probiotics. Trader Joe’s has acidophilus supplements that knock out any bowel problems i develop. Or you could eat a lot of yogurt.

  2. and, I hate to say this, gall bladder issues (if you still have yours of course)?
