The Ship

Before I blog about some of the highlights of our cruise, I wanted to give a bit of an overview of the ship.

We went on the Royal Carribean line, on the ship alaska_cruise/DSCN1523“Radiance of the Seas”. We picked that ship because of a TV show/infomercial we saw about Alaska cruising that focused on this ship. The main attractive feature to us was that it said it had a lot of glassed in observation areas all around the ship. This seemed like a very important consideration with the uncertain Alaska weather. I certainly didn’t want to have to go stand outside to see the scenery if it was going to be cold and/or rainy.

Starting at the bottom, the decks that were important to us were:

• Our spacious cabin on deck 3
• Looking down the central well, known as “The Centrum” to the bar and lounge on deck 4
• The dining room on decks 4 and 5.
• Didn’t get any pictures of them, but on deck 5 there was also a “internet cafe” type thing, and a Latte bar.
• Decks/Promenades on decks 5,6,10,11,12
• The Solarium and indoor pool and hot-tub on deck 11
• The outdoor pool on deck 11 with the Viking Crown above on deck 13.
