“I haven’t test-driven a Prius yet. To decide if I should: Is there room for two car seats in the back?”

We've got a 2001 (first generation) prius, and it's roomy enough in the back seat to fit two car seats and one cramped adult. When my children were a bit younger, I'd occasionally cram myself into the back seat to keep them from fighting, and it *is* possible for a 6'+ tall adult male to sit back there with two car seats.

The second-gen prius is a little bit larger than the first-gen, so I'd imagine the situation isn't any (or much) worse.

The Prius is surprisingly roomy in the back. I was as comfortable as I can be with my knees back. It's barely tall enough for me, so you probably won't want to sit back there. But your kids will be ok for a few more years.

(We will eventually replace our 2001 Civic -- probably in the next couple of years-- and while we will almost certainly get a hybrid of some kind, I've been assuming we'd get a Civic hybrid.)

It seems odd to me that you can't get exactly the color you want if you're willing to wait for it.

Yay, another Prius on the road!

The only reason we got the Smart Key option on ours was because we wanted a Prius ASAP, and the next one available had that option. Now I think the next time we buy a car we'll want it. It's just too damn convenient. One side benefit is it's practically impossible to lock yourself out -- if there's a key fob inside the car, it'll refuse to lock.

Wanting a Prius ASAP is also the reason we ended up getting one in Bilgewater Pearl, or whatever they call that greyish greenish color.

The backup camera is a feature a friend of mine would love to have. He had a neck injury and can't turn his head as far around as he used to. He ferries his two young sons around everywhere, which means he's around a lot of kids, and he's always afraid he'll run a child over one day.

The Smart Key sounds amazing.

I live in hope that when the XM-Sirius merger finally goes through, XM will have CBC1, even south of the border.
