My iBook asked me to reboot after it's iTunes and QT update recently as well.

I said "later", and it hasn't bothered me since.

I guess when I next reboot it'll take care of whatever was necessary...but since I only reboot it about once every 2 or 3 weeks, that could be a while.

...guess I should just reboot it now.

You're lucky. I was typing a report a few months back and it popped up. The 'reboot now' button was selected and I had just finished typing a word, so as I pressed 'space' the focus was stolen from word to that dialog. Poof! Everything gone.

I'm happy I've learned to work on older machines and I still type C-s and variants at the end of every paragraph and function...

The windows paperweight in my office has SPSS on it, and I have some stats to do. I logged in for the first time in probably 9 months (others who share the office use it regularly). Immediate lock-up. Tried the three-finger salute and did get to task manager, which locked things up even worse and ended up having to manually restart. That's the windows I know and wish to eradicate from the Earth.

The machine in one of my spring classrooms had the incurable focus-stealing pop-up disease, as well. Every 10 minutes it would break into my lecture note presentation and want something. Very soothing.

Temporarily kill the "Automatic Updates" service (stop it, but leave it on Automatic). That will turn off prompts (and further updates) until you reset.
