Shortly after I got my iBook, the little metal piece on the adaptor came loose. I called AppleCare and said, "The little metal piece on my power adaptor, where it goes into the computer, has come loose." The APpleCare guy immediately said, "Well, you've got yourself a new adaptor, then," and asked for my info and address.

So AppleCare is certainly worth a try.
