Linode themselves have software for monitoring transfer and CPU use, and currently after 18 days of use, it says that I've used 8% of my monthly transfer. I'm not worried - in all my years of using Gradwell, I don't think I went over 0.5Gb a month (with a limit of 5.3Gb). I'm going to be using more with Linode because it's also my mail relay, but I also have a limit of 38Gb.

My server came with MRTG mostly set up, but I don't think I've ever used it for anything except monitoring total bandwidth used, and even then, only rarely.

I was worried when I got the server about my 1000 gig transfer limit, but my peak month so far had me using a whopping 13 Gig (a normal month is 2-3 gigs) - so I rarely look at it anymore.
