Don't get me wrong, I fly VFR when I'm doing local flying. It's just weird to be doing it on a cross-border cross-country.

I guess it's all what you get used to. I love flying around in uncontrolled airspace, sans flight following. I generally take advantage of it, and when I don't I still generally have the radio tuned to approach and local airports, but there are times when I turn the volume down and just troll along, at 2,000 feet and 90 knots, and it's just the most peaceful thing.
