Regarding inappropriate language, I believe some of my first Perl/PHP scripts are still running happily on production servers dotted around the world. The very helpful error messages were lifted straight from the works of Terry Pratchett - examples <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hex_%28fictional_computer%29#Quotes_.2F_Error_messages">here</a>. I feel slightly guilty, but only slightly. Apparently working on my old code is a rite of passage for the new recruits in some of my former workplaces... Oh, that’s cool.
