Gordon Freeman is a scientist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (http://www.dana-farber.org/abo/danafarber/detail.asp?PersonID=72&RD=True). Even as scientists go he's pretty dweeby, so my mental picture of him zipping along in a hovercraft blowing alien helicopters out of the sky is rather startling.
